Read John 12:28-36
Experience The New Life Jesus Has For You.
When Jesus declared that he wanted to glorify his Father through his death, God spoke from heaven saying, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” Some who heard God’s voice said it had thundered, while others said an angel had spoken to Jesus. Jesus said the voice was not for his benefit but for theirs. It was God’s way of letting the people know that he was confirming the calling of Jesus to go the cross. Jesus said that he was about to defeat and drive out the enemy, the devil. He would accomplish this through his death and as a result would draw all people to himself.
This confused the people because the Law of Moses said that the Messiah would live forever (Isaiah 9:6-7, Daniel 7:13-14). So how could Jesus declare his coming death if he is the Messiah? They didn’t understand that it was necessary for Jesus to die for the sins of the world, but then be raised from the dead to provide eternal life to all the world.
Jesus compared his life to light and the enemies life to darkness. He challenged his listeners to walk in the light, to believe in the light, and become children of the light. Then when darkness surrounds them they won’t be overcome with the darkness, but will continue to walk in the light with Jesus.
We too are challenged:
Jesus wants us to walk in the light with himself so that when darkness attacks us we will not be overcome by the darkness and thus walk in the darkness.
Are you walking in the light or have the things of this world captivated you and is holding you in bondage? What are you hiding? Let today be the day you confess the very thing you have hidden from the world. Bring it into the light by confessing it to the Lord and to those who care most about you.
As long as you are holding on to the things of darkness you will continue to give permission to the devil to steal, kill, and destroy you (John 10:10).
