Read John 12:1-8
In Reality, I Could Care Less!
Six days before the passover, Jesus went to Bethany where Lazarus lived. A dinner was given in honor of Jesus. Lazarus reclined at the table with Jesus and the others as Martha served them. In the meantime, Mary took a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume, and poured it on the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of perfume.
Upon seeing this, Judas Iscariot objected because he said the perfume could have been sold for a lot of money and then given to the poor. But in reality, he could care less about the poor because he was a thief and loved money. As a keeper of the money bag, he often helped himself to what was put in there.
Jesus rebuked Judas saying, “Leave her alone,” because Jesus claimed the perfume was intended for the day of his burial. He said, “You will always have the poor among you but you won’t always have me among you.”
What is it you have that could be given to the poor or to the needy? In reality, where is your heart when it comes to the needy and where is your heart when it comes to being sold out for Jesus? Do you really care or are you preoccupied with something in this world that means more to you?
I want to take an honest evaluation of where my heart is before I answer this question.
It could be said of Judas that “In reality, Judas could care less about the poor because money was more important to him.”
How would you fill in the blanks:
“In reality, I could care less about ____________________ because ____________________ is more important to me.”
If I was to be honest, as of late, this is how I would answer this:
“In reality, I could care less about my wife because my satisfaction is more important to me.”
I feel I have not made the sacrifices that I should have in order to reinforce in my wife’s heart that she is important to me and that she’s my number one Ministry.
God help me to surrender every bit of who I am so that I might minister to those around me starting first and foremost with my wife. Help me to help her realize her great value, worth and purpose for you.
