Read John 11:45-48
Where Is Your Focus? Preserving God’s Word Or Preserving Your Desires.
After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, many of the Jews who came to see Mary, saw the miracle and believed in Jesus. Yet some of the Jews went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. The Pharisees then called a meeting of the Sanhedrin to put a stop to what Jesus was doing. Instead of rejoicing in the Lord because of the miracle, they feared people would in fact believe he is the Messiah. They feared that the Romans would then take away both their Temple and their Nation. Their goal was not to rejoice in the preservation of the life of Lazarus, but instead to focus on preserving their own political status and political power. What’s ironic, they feared the promotion of Jesus as the Messiah would result in their Nation being destroyed. When in reality, the evil they promoted is what led to the destruction of the nation in 70 AD.
It’s amazing how one miracle can result in two opposite responses.
1. People believing in Jesus as the Messiah and rejoicing or
2. People fearing he may be seen as the Messiah and therefore wanting to kill him so as to maintain political power.
How’s this possible?
The moment we allow even 1% of our heart to lose focus on the Lord and his Word, is the moment we are no longer trying to please the Lord, but ourselves. Once “self” takes over, then we open the door to all kinds of evil. You go down a path while justifying every thought and action even though it opposes the Lord.
Is God trying to do a miracle in your life so that you know that he is the Messiah worthy to be followed?
Or is he busy trying to get you re-focused on him because you’re too busy trying to preserve your desires over his?
