Read John 1:1-18
Who is Jesus?
This passage describes who Jesus is:
He is the WORD. JESUS was with God. JESUS is God. He was in the BEGINNING. Through Jesus all things were CREATED. Through him we find LIFE. His LIFE provides LIGHT for all humankind. Nothing in this world of darkness can overcome this Jesus, the LIGHT.
John the Baptist’s sole purpose for coming to this Earth was to testify concerning Jesus the LIGHT. We are called to BELIEVE IN JESUS. Jesus was from the beginning but chose to come to dwell amongst us on Earth. And though he created all the world, the people of the world did not recognize him nor did they receive him. But those who did receive him and believe in his name, then became Children of God. Verse 14 says the WORD became FLESH and dwelt among us. And he came as the SON OF GOD and he is full of GRACE and TRUTH. Verse 18 says no one has seen God except the Son of God, who is, in fact, God himself.
Who is Jesus? In essence, he is all that is mentioned above. What a great introduction to the book of John. And throughout John we will learn all about God because he dwelt among us through the person of Jesus.
And to those who receive and believe in Jesus will become children of God.
Dear Lord, as we go through the book of John, help me to capture in my heart who you really are so that I will not only believe and receive, but follow you. The more I learn about you the more I want to be transformed into your image so that I can become a vessel that you use as a light to a dark world. Use me to bring hope to those who are brokenhearted or lost in their deception. In Jesus name, Amen!
