Read Jeremiah Chapter 39
You Didn’t Listen to God.
In the 9th year of King Zedekiah of Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came against Jerusalem with his whole army. It was about 2 years later that Babylon broke through the city. They captured King Zedekiah and his family and killed his sons and plucked out the eyes of King Zedekiah and took him to Babylon in shackles. Then they burn the city just as Jeremiah had prophesied over and over and over again. But God’s hand was on Jeremiah and protected him. He remained in the courtyard with chains on his wrist with some of the poor people who were allowed to tend the vineyards and fields. God told Jeremiah he would save him after the prophecy was fulfilled because Jeremiah trusted God.
I hope we can learn from this. God had been speaking through Jeremiah over many many years. God spoke. Jeremiah listened. Jeremiah shared it. Some people took heed to God’s word and some did not.
Today, we have God’s work readily available to us through the Bible. God is trying to speak to us through his word. We have to read it. Listen to it. Obey it. Share it. As a result, Our lives will change and other lives will also change. But it starts with the word of God, the foundation for our lives.
The most important decision you could ever make is to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The second most important decision you can make is have a developing relationship with the Lord by investing into God’s word as the foundation for the rest of your life. Don’t end your life with regrets: “I wish I would have listened!”
