Read Jeremiah Chapter 36
Do I Have To Warn You Again?
In the fourth year of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, God told Jeremiah to write on a scroll all the words he has said over the years regarding the disaster that will come upon Judah and Israel because of their sin. The Lord said, perhaps they will hear these words and repent of their sins, then I will forgive them and withhold the disaster. So Jeremiah had Baruch write the words on a scroll. And because Jeremiah was not allowed in the temple of the Lord, he told Baruch to take the scroll and read it at the temple as the people came in. As he read, one of the official’s relatives heard the words and had Baruch read it to all the officials at the temple. When they heard the words they were afraid and realized they needed to repent. They wanted the words read to the king but told Baruch that he and Jeremiah should hide for fear the king would not accept the words.
Sure enough, when the king heard the words of the Lord, he ripped the scroll little by little and had it all burned in his fire pot. He wanted Baruch and Jeremiah arrested but God hid them. Then the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time and said write the same words on a second scroll and read it to the king only this time to tell him that he and his sons, and his attendants will all be destroyed because of their wickedness. Then a new king will take the throne.
God, out of love, confronts us of our sins through his Spirit hoping we will repent of things that we say and do. How many times does he have to confront us before we realize we have to repent?
It’s funny how there are certain sins we commit when we are by ourselves. Because nobody knows about it, we feel it’s not so bad of a sin. We rationalize in our minds that we’re not as bad as OTHER people, you know, the really BAD people! We live in a world of deception not realizing how God hates all sin and his call for holiness we must take heed to. Lord forgive me for all my sins, including those done in darkness. Help me repent and walk in holiness WITH YOU versus walking In the flesh APART FROM YOU.
