Read Jeremiah Chapter 34
May I Always Rely On The Lord As My Provider.
Every 7 years, the people of Israel and Judah were to set free any Hebrew slaves that they had. The time came for this to happen and God’s people set their slaves free but soon after, regretted it and took them back as slaves.
After reading this, I pondered why they did this!?! Was it because they became so reliant upon the slaves they couldn’t imagine a productive life without them? Then I wondered if that happens to us? Do we become so reliant upon someone or something, that we lose focus of God’s promise to take care of us? So when the person or thing we rely upon is gone, we can’t cope. We forget God’s promise to take care of us and be with us. As a result, we put our hope in other people or other things.
It’s easy to get accustomed to certain people or things: our spouse, our job, our money, our friends, our tools or equipment, special employees, etc. Then, if we lose one of these things or people, we find out that that’s what we had our Hope and Faith in. It is inevitable, we will lose someone or some things, but God, help us not to lose focus on the fact that you are our Jehovah Jireh, our provider. May I always put my Hope and Faith In You and Not people or things. May you always be in the forefront of my heart and mind so I have 100% reliance upon you. May the people and things in my life be seen as an added blessing from you that can easily come and easily go. Only You, Lord, are consistent in my everyday life!
