Read Jeremiah Chapter 27
The Yoke We Carry Can Be Either Burdensome Or Light.
Jeremiah was told to make a yoke similar to the picture on the link I attached to this devotional. A yoke symbolized servitude or symbolized one performing something burdensome.
Jeremiah was to put the yoke on his neck and go to all the nations and tell them that they would be delivered into the hands of Babylon. They were commanded to bow under the yoke of Babylon and serve them. If they served Babylon, God would allow them to remain in their own land. But if they chose not to serve Babylon, they would die.
Those that bowed to the yoke of Babylon would not have a burdensome yoke. But those who refused to bow to the yoke of Babylon would die.
Today is not much different than the days of Jeremiah. We can choose to carry one of two kinds of yokes around our necks:
1. The yoke of this world. Such yoke is burdensome. It keeps us struggling in life with no hope. It takes our focus off from God. We’re bound by the worries of this world. It’s destructive to our souls.
2. The yoke of Jesus. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Yes, there will be hard and difficult days but Jesus promises us that he will be with us and help us carry the burdens of this world. We can trust him to guide us, to help us, and give us hope for tomorrow.
Surrender Your Life to Jesus and allow him to take the burdens of this world, which are weighing us down in hopelessness, and give us a new Hope and new Life.
