Read Jeremiah Chapter 26
“Do You Solemnly Swear To Tell The Truth, The Whole Truth, And Nothing But The Truth…So Help You God?”
Above is an oath that people had to take inside the courtroom. They were expected to tell the whole truth. Anything less than the whole truth was only deceptive and destructive for determining innocent or guilty individuals.
God tells Jeremiah to go stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s House and say every word he tells him to say without omitting one single word. God said perhaps the people will listen and repent, then I will withhold my wrath.
However, as soon as Jeremiah finished saying exactly what the Lord told him to say, the priests, prophets, and the people seized him saying, “You must die!” In his defense, Jeremiah said I am speaking only what God told me to say. If you want to kill me for this, go ahead, but if you do, you are bringing guilt of innocent blood upon yourselves and on the land of Judah. The Officials and some of the people said to the priests and prophets, don’t put them to death, he has indeed spoken God’s word.
Jeremiah Was faithful to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, even if it meant death.
We live in a world today where pastors are afraid to speak the whole truth, for fear of losing people in their congregation. Some Christians compromise their faith around non-Christians. They give a watered down version of what it means to be a follower of Christ. In John 8:32, Jesus said you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Withholding God’s truth only keeps people in bondage.

Lord, help us present your Truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. May we do so, with our words and with our lives, regardless of the outcome.
