Read Jeremiah chapter 22
Don’t Be A Bully.
God confronts the king of Judah saying do what is right and just and rescue those who are being oppressed and being taken advantage of. Show respect to the widows, fatherless, and the outsiders. In essence, “Quit being a bully!”
Got confronts the king, “Does it make you feel more of a King because your possessions are numerous and you have people working for you without pay? You are being arrogant. What is the purpose for this? What are you afraid of? Let me be your provider. Your day of justice is forthcoming and it won’t be pleasant.
Am I a bully? Am I arrogant? Do I look down on those who are in need? Maybe I’m not a bully but maybe I sit in silence while the widow, or fatherless, or stranger are crying out for love and attention or for food. I’m not sure if turning your head to a need is much different than being a bully to them. God told the king to be proactive: “Do what is right”, “Rescue the oppressed,” and “Show respect.” Being a bully or Sitting in silence was not one of the options.
Lord, help me check myself. Am I a bully, selfish, arrogant, and blind to the needs around me? Give me the eyes of Jesus and the heart to respond to those in need.
