Read Habakkuk Chapter 2
Are You Sitting And Waiting Patiently Before The Lord?
God is wanting to give the prophet Habakkuk a vision of what is to come. The vision is all about the destruction of Babylon. However, God is, first, going to use Babylon to rebuke Judah for not repenting from their wickedness. Afterwards God is going to destroy Babylon for not repenting from their wickedness.
So Habakkuk wants to put himself in a place so as to ensure that he sees and hears the vision God has for him. Habakkuk says:
1. “I will stand on my guard post” meaning he’s not going anywhere. He’s staying at this post because he’s adamant in wanting to see the vision the Lord has.
2. “I will station myself in the rampart.” A rampart is a high tower. So he’s going to a place where he can focus specifically on what God has to show him. He doesn’t want to miss it.
3. “I will keep watch to see what the Lord will speak to me.” He’s willing to be faithful and persevere through the waiting process.
4. After God speaks, I will reply when he has reproved [or corrected] me.” Sometimes God’s vision requires a change in our heart and attitude before we can move forward with what God wants to do. So he will reprove us so our heart and attitude is in the right place.
When you are seeking the Lord for something specific for your life or future, what do you do? Nothing? Where do you go so that you can sit and wait patiently to hear his voice? How do you seek him? Through his word, through worship of songs, or through prayer and meditation? Let Habakkuk be our role model! Be willing to wait patiently and find that quiet place where you can meditate and listen. Don’t give up. Be faithful as you wait on the Lord. And be ready for God to reprove or correct you first. God’s vision is not usually an Easy Road and is often a Challenge. And the vision he shows you isn’t just for your benefit but for the benefit of others as well.
CHALLENGE: Find that quiet place where you can daily go and sit before the Lord and hear his voice.
