Read Ezekiel Chapter 8.
Detestable Acts that PROVOKE God, are done in SECRET, or are considered TRIVIAL.
God appeared to Ezekiel while he was at home with the elders of Judah. He took Ezekiel by the hair of the head and lifted him and showed him three visions of three detestable acts the Elders and Israelites were doing. This would be awkward. God is showing Ezekiel the very sin they’re being done by the people sitting in his home. How would we like our sins exposed to others?
VISION 1: Ezekiel saw the elders of Judah worshiping an idol that provoked God to jealousy.
VISION 2: Ezekiel saw the elders doing many detestable things in secret with their own idols while complaining that God is not with them. They failed to see that their sin “drives God away from them.”
Vision 3: Ezekiel saw about 25 elders with their backs to God while worshiping a false god and did so as if it was a mere trivial matter. It was no big deal. It had become so much a part of their lives, that it was now considered acceptable.
Ok, time to be Honest! What are those detestable things YOU are doing that either provokes God, they are done in secret, or has been done for so long that it’s no longer a big deal? Be careful that you don’t think of the “sins” of OTHER people. We all fail in these areas in one way or another. Where does God want to capture your heart more for him?
What consumes your time? What do you put a lot of energy into? It could be anything. It could be your job. It could be your hunger for money while relationships with God or others diminishes. It could be reading books, sports, possessions, exercising, TV, YouTube, relationships, and the list goes on. So that which was intended to be something we can enjoy as a GIFT FROM GOD all of a sudden has become our god or idol. As a result we have pushed God away and eventually we will lose the blessings of God in our lives. God help me to repent and keep you number one in my life and in all aspects of my life.
