I Don’t Want To Just Sit Here! Use Me!
A designated time was set on the Sabbath for the prince to worship the Lord in the Temple with the priests providing the burnt and peace offerings. Plus the people were also to worship and be a part of the sacrifices.
Going to the temple was more than just entering and leaving. It was about participating, about reflection on the Lord and self and others. God intended “Church” to be something one engages and participates in.
Just like today, as you read 1st Corinthians chapters 12-14, you see how people were to attend their place of Fellowship knowing they have gifts and then use the gifts for God’s glory and for the edification of the people of the church. Church was all about serving, giving, receiving, being engaged in the Lord and one another. It was not meant to be a place to go, sit, and leave. Today, it’s easy to go to church, sit, and receive only. People sit before the songs to receive, and set before the message to receive. But wait! God does not want us to just sit, but also Serve!
How can I contribute and edify the body of Christ? One could participate in teaching, singing, taking an offering, praying for people, interacting, loving others, meeting needs, sitting with a lonely person, etc it shouldn’t just be all about “ME!!”
God, help us identify our gifts, then help us use them for your glory and for the edification of the body of Christ, the Church!
