Read Ezekiel Chapter 4

I’m Wasting Away.

Ezekiel is to make a model of Jerusalem and to show that it is under siege (taken control of by the enemy). Then he is to lay on his left and right side for a total of 430 days as a way of taking on the sins of the people of Israel and Judah. During that time he can have food and drink that is rationed.

This is all done as a way of prophesying to the people of Israel and Judah that their enemy will besiege them and they will have to ration their food and drink. Which will result in their bodies “wasting away” physically. People will be appalled by their appearance as they waste away all because of their sin.

I’ve seen it over and over and over again in my life and in the lives of others. When sin is welcomed into one’s life, you allow the devil to take siege of your body and soul. As a result, spiritual food and drink is cut off from your life. Everything about your life begins to change. The things of the Lord that once were very important to you, becomes less important. Sadly, you don’t recognize your spiritual well-being is starving to death but others see it and are appalled.

Someone with an eating disorder can’t see how their body is wasting away and needs intervention. It’s the same with one’s spiritual body: they begin to waste away but can’t see it, or they see it, but justify it or deny it.

Are you “wasting away” spiritually? Let go of your pride and let go of your need to be in control, and get help from godly people and be restored in your relationship with the Lord. Just as Ezekiel laid down 430 days as a way of taking on the sins of the people, let us not so quickly forget that Jesus laid down his life for the forgiveness of all of our sins. All of them. There is forgiveness and hope through Jesus Christ. So quit wasting away!
