Wow, Am I Ever Doing A Great Job!
The Nile River was a huge resource for meeting so many needs of Egypt. King Pharoah prospered greatly because of the Nile River. He gained much power and wealth. He became so arrogant that he claimed the Nile River was his and that he made it. As a result, God declared to the king that he would lose everything because he put his confidence and security in the Nile and not in God. Then everyone would know that the Lord was God. Sadly, Israel also put their confidence and security in Egypt. They looked at Egypt as a god who helped meet their needs. Instead of seeing Egypt as a resource that God used to help them, they rejected God.
Where do you struggle the most?
1. Egypt saw themselves as a god and put their confidence in self rather than in God. Do we put confidence in OURSELVES and OUR career, forgetting that God enables us to prosper. Or
2. The Israelites saw Egypt as their god and put their confidence in Egypt thus rejecting God. Do we put our trust in other people or things in order to sustain our lives?
Both are dangerous positions because both reject God.
If we could but understand that the Lord is God, the one and only God, then our hearts would be focused on him and not ourselves and not other people. Then we would thank God often for being the reason we prosper. We’d realize that at any time we could lose everything like the Egyptians did. If we did lose everything, could we survive? Would you fall into a pit of despair and hopelessness? Or would you say, God, I have lost everything and everyone, but you are my God. You will sustain me. You are my everything. You are my provider, my protection, my source for life. Thank you that you are God. Thank you I can put my trust in you and you only.
