Read Ezekiel Chapter 24
Why Are You Weeping?
Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem so God speaks to Ezekiel to tell the Israelites a parable. In short, God sees Israelites are filled with impurities because of sin. Their focus is not on their relationship with the Lord and is not on pointing their family to have a relationship with the Lord.
So God is about to desecrate his sanctuary as a way of showing his broken relationship with them and declares that their sons and daughters will die by the enemy’s sword. God said, that when it happens they are not to mourn or weep. Why is that? Because they would be weeping for the wrong reasons. They would be weeping out of selfishness: “I miss my kids!” The real reason they should be weeping is because their kids died without knowing the Lord God.
I’m thinking of the day that Jesus was taking his cross to Golgotha and the women weeped over the coming death of Jesus. They did not realize his death was necessary for the Salvation of souls. He told them not to weep over him but rather to weep for themselves and for their children.
May we have the right heart for our children, our family, and our friends. If a family member dies and I weep because I’m going to miss them and I’m not even thinking about their soul. I miss the mark.
I hate the thought of a loved one dying. I hate all the more if they died without Christ and I never shared Jesus with them. God help us all to have the Heart of Jesus who wept over lost souls. May it drive us to be a witness for you!
