Read Ezekiel Chapter 23
“I’m Disgusted With My Sin.”
God told Ezekiel a story about two sisters who became prostitutes at a very young age in Egypt. The stories about the two sisters, actually symbolize what has been going on in Israel and Judah. For Israel and Judah prostituted themselves with the surrounding Nations.
Eventually God turned against the two prostitutes, exposing their sin, and declared his wrath against them.
The second sister was actually worse than the first for she had prostituted herself with even more Nations. The verse that jumped out to me was Ezekiel 23:17 where it says, “… the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their lust they defiled her. After she had been defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust.”
But after that she still engaged in her promiscuous behaviors.
The word “DISGUST” makes me think there was a battle going on within her mind. The emotional side loved the attention, but the rational side was unhappy and disgusted with the sin.
There was a young couple dating who became sexually active. They enjoyed the pleasure that comes with sex, but they knew in their heart it was wrong before the Lord. It was then that they decided to get reconnected to the church and establish boundaries for their lives. I admired that.
How many of us are struggling in an area of our lives that, emotionally, what we are doing brings a certain pleasure. But the rational side of us realizes it’s sin and we get disgusted with ourselves?
When that happens, may our disgust drive us to get established back with the Lord, and establish new boundaries. May we have that one accountability person that can help us stay faithful to the Lord.
Don’t just be disgusted with sin, do something to turn away from it to be renewed in Christ.
