Read Ezekiel Chapter 15
I Want My Life To Count For Something.
God asks a question: what value does a wooden vine have? He says it’s useless. You can’t make anything out of it. It’s only used for fuel in the fire. The Lord says that Jerusalem is useless like a vine because they have been unfaithful to God. Therefore the Lord will set his face against them and make them a desolate land.
What a depressing thought to think that I live my life on Earth only to be seen as useless by God. Useless is an ugly word and is the opposite of what God wants for us. John 15:5-6, Jesus says if we are connected to him, we bear fruit. If we are not connected to him then we are useless and we will be thrown away into the fire.
It’s in Christ that we find our Value, our Worth, our Significance, and our Purpose. It’s in Christ that we find our identity. It’s in Christ that we are able to produce fruit for the kingdom of God. It’s then that our life will count for something. If we, like the Israelites, choose to be unfaithful, or choose a life without Christ, hence choosing to be in control of our own lives, then we become useless. If what we do is not done for the glory of God and for his kingdom, then it’s useless. That sounds harsh to an unbeliever because you may be doing really “GOOD” things. But God is not looking for “GOOD” people for he says no one is good because we are all sinners. He’s looking for obedient people who will follow him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Colossians 3:17 should be our desire: where we are connected to Jesus so that all we do and say is done for the glory of God.
Whose kingdom are you building? Yours or one for the Lord? One is useless and One is useful and counts for something.
