Read Amos Chapter 6
Are You Living The Dream? Self Indulgence Is A Nightmare!
The people of God are living the dream! They are experiencing economic prosperity. They’re living with great ease and feel secure within themselves. God told them to compare themselves with the other nations. Is Israel any better? They might think they are but God said judgment awaits them because of their Self-indulgence. They have so many luxuries of life and feel they don’t need God. God declares their life of ease is about to become a nightmare. They have shown Injustice and the righteousness of God is far from them. Their arrogance is detestable. They take credit for all their accomplishments and leave God out of everything.
If I were to challenge you to write down all the luxuries of your life, including all the different ways you have prospered, then how would you describe your living? Would you be like Israel saying, “Look at me! Look at all my stuff!” Would you be so self indulged that you feel you’re living the dream. Would your arrogance cause you to lose focus of what’s really important? Does your lifestyle interfere with your time with the Lord? Does your lifestyle keep you from going to church and fellowshipping with other believers? Have you lost focus of the poor and needy? Is God’s righteousness far from you? Are you living the dream? Be careful, because like israel, God may be ready to make your life a nightmare in hopes of killing the SELF INDULGENCE while turning your life into outward Ministry to the poor, sick, and needy.
Notice I didn’t say, God will end your prosperity, although he may, but God may want to change your focus so that as you continue to prosper, you use it now for the glory of God rather than making it all about yourself.
