Read Amos Chapter 3
I’m Warning You Ahead Of Time.
Israel is living in sin and God is ready to punish them. God has a conversation with them and warns them ahead of time. God’s warning is done in three steps:
1. God gets their attention.
2. God declares his coming Wrath.
3. God always gives warnings.
The three steps he took with Israel are the same steps he’ll take with us when we are not walking in Holiness with God.
1. God Calls For Our Attention. God said in vs 1, “Listen to Me!” Are we listening to God’s voice through his Holy Spirit or his Holy Word?
2. God Declares His Coming Wrath. If we are listening to God, then we will see the value of stopping or repenting from our sins. Why do we wait until we face God’s Wrath and consequences of our sins? God help us to repent rather than be humbled by your spirit as you did King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel Chapter 4.
3. God Always Gives Warning of His Wrath. It is never done in secret (vs 7). God will establish boundaries for holy living and when we violate them, He speaks to our hearts through his Holy Spirit and through his Word. So when the Wrath and consequences come, we have no one to blame but ourselves. Take ownership, be responsible, and God will restore you.
Are you headed down a path of unholiness? Are you taking time to listen to God? Let today be the day that you resist the devil and draw near to God. When you draw near to God, He will draw near to you (James 4:7-8). Don’t put it off!
