Read Again Matthew 18:1-6
Part 2 I Love Recognition.
Recap: Jesus was asked who’s the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven and he said that the greatest is the one who humbles themselves like a child.
Vs 5: Then Jesus said that “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.” Receiving a person of humility can be challenging. For those who are seeking recognition could fall into this trap where we take advantage of a person of humility or outright ignore them. And it doesn’t even have to be a child. It could be an adult that is childlike in the quality of humility. For example: I have gone out of my way and invested time in certain individuals. At times I feel I put more effort in receiving one individual over another. Why do I do that? Is it because deep down inside I like the recognition that comes from the one and not the other? I’m thinking of this guy who’s in prison and writing me letters and declaring how he’s back with God and wants me to correspond with him and even come visit him. If I’m really receiving this person as Jesus would, then why have I only written one letter back? Why haven’t I visited him yet? I could “justify” myself and explain how he has lied to me, taken advantage of me, and I don’t trust him. But I fear such words will fall HOLLOW before the face of God. If he were someone that I would value his recognition more, then I fear I would be more likely to invest into his life.
How much recognition we receive should have nothing to do with our response to others. Obedience to the Lord is what’s more important.
MY PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that within the next two weeks that I will have written to my friend in prison and visited him. Help me I pray! In Jesus Name!
