Read Acts 9:32-43
Get Down And Dirty And Help Someone In Need.
Peter traveled about the country and stopped in the city of Lydda. Peter came upon a man named Aeneas who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for 8 years. Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you!” Immediately the man was healed and those who lived in Lydda and Sharon who saw him turned to the Lord.
In a nearby city, called Joppa, there was a disciple named Tabitha. She did so much to help the poor. She made robes and all kinds of clothing to help the needy. She later became very sick and died. Two men went to Lydda asking Peter to come to Joppa to see Tabitha. She was in a room so Peter went to the room and was surrounded by widows. Peter sent all of them out of the room and he got down on his knees and prayed. Then he said to Tabitha, “Get up!” She opened her eyes and was healed. As a result, many people believed in the Lord.
Peter invested into the lives of others. He didn’t just travel from City to City to preach. He was all about visiting and helping others. He was where the needy people were and God used him.
What can we learn from this? We need to be about those who are in need and hurting. We have to be willing to sacrifice our time and energy to help others. Sadly, when it comes to helping others, we want it to be convenient and not interfere with our daily routines. Loving others like Jesus did, means getting down and dirty. It means going out of one’s way making sacrifices with our time, energy, or even our money.
Pray that God shows you one person a day that you can reach out to and show the love of Jesus with. And don’t be disturbed if it interferes with your daily routines. And don’t be surprised if people get saved because of your time, effort, and lots of prayer.
