September 2, 2026. Read Acts 4:32-37
I Can’t Give That Up!
More and more Jews came to believe in Jesus and follow him. All the believers were one in heart and mind. They were treating their possessions as if they weren’t their own which resulted in them sharing their possessions with others in need. God’s Grace was so powerfully at work that there were no needy persons among them. From time to time those who owned land or houses sold them and took the money to give it to the apostles so they could distribute it to anyone in need. And with great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
What does it mean to be “One in Heart and Mind” with other believers? In this passage:
* It was the ability to see all that you own as God’s possession and not your own.
* It was the ability to see the needs of others and want to do something about it.
* It was the ability to give up anything in our possessions for the Lord in order to help others in need. People even sold land and houses in order to help others.
When is the last time we sold or gave up something of great value so we could help others in need?
Sadly, we live in a world where we take pride in “our stuff.” We quickly forget that what we have are blessings from God. We should be willing to give up any or anything for the glory of God.
I remember when Miracle Mountain Ranch had a fire and lost a big barn and all their hay. I remember farmers from all around coming together taking hay they owned and together gave it to Miracle Mountain Ranch.
That’s what the church should be doing for those in need. That’s what I should be doing. Lord help me be willing to give up any and everything I own for the benefit of others and For Your Glory.
And help me to continue to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus and the Salvation he provides. That’s the greatest gift I could give to others. Help me do that faithfully.
