Read Acts 2:44-47
Can You Imagine?
During Pentecost, thousands were getting saved, the church became unified and like minded, and began doing things that most people don’t do. Can you imagine if we did today what they did then?
1. They helped the needy and even made huge sacrifices of selling property and possessions so they could help others. Think of what God may want you to sell and give up so that others can be helped and encouraged and shown love. Can you imagine showing up at someone’s door saying, “Here, God wants to bless you with this!”
2. Everyday they met together in the church building. They met at a common place for fellowshipping, and learning and growing in God’s word. Can you imagine if our society captured that vision and began meeting even three times a week?! Can you imagine what sacrifices one would have to make? It would mean not having their kids in so many sports and traveling teams. Or learning to budget their time wisely. Can you imagine what commitments or habits that one would have to change?
3. The new church had met in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts. Making it a habit to meet with other Christians is huge for keeping oneself accountable to the Lord. It’s also a great outreach tool of inviting new people to the gathering and building relationships with non-believers. Can you imagine that.
4. Plus as they gathered together they would praise the Lord together. God would be pleased by such a gathering. Can you imagine what would happen if people began to do that? I could see people repenting from sin and changing how they talked and lived because you can’t enter into the presence of God in worship without realizing one’s need for holiness.
And if we did all these things then number five would naturally happen: 5. People would enjoy the favor of one another. People would be continually blessing each other. There’s joy in that. And people would continually keep their focus on the Lord, and he would enjoy that.
Can you imagine?
