Read Acts 2:1
Today Is An Opportunity.
Verse 1 starts out saying, “When the day of Pentecost came,….” In this passage, it mentions “Pentecost.” What is this “Day of Pentecost?” My typical answer would be it was the day the Holy Spirit came upon many disciples so the good news of Jesus could be preached and heard from all the people in their own language. As true as this is, the Old Testament celebration of Pentecost was actually a 50-day celebration. The Greek word for Pentecost means “50th.” So Pentecost was the last day of celebrating the Festival of Weeks. This was a huge celebration that drew in thousands of Jews from across the Roman Empire.
What a great opportunity for God to display his power and message of Jesus to a large crowd of Jews from across all the existing nations. God knew what he was ! God had promised the pouring out of his Holy Spirit. The disciples were to be ready and even anticipating that coming day. And when it came, thousands and the kids thousands of lives were impacted for the kingdom of God.
Do we have that same heart of being ready for the Holy Spirit’s work in and through our lives? Do we have an anticipation, with excitement, for the work of the Holy Spirit? We should look at every day as an opportunity to impact a life for Jesus. When we crawl out of bed, are we ready for God to use us anyway he wants and do we look forward with anticipation and excitement for this opportunity to touch a life for Jesus? God may call you to touch a life on your way to school or work. God may call you to do a Ministry that touches a lot of lives all at once. Pray and be open to the Holy Spirit for what he wants to do in and through your life.
