Read Acts 10:9-23
“In the Meantime….”
God told Cornelius, the Roman soldier, to send men to the city of Joppa and bring back Peter. “IN THE MEANTIME, Peter went up to the roof to pray. While praying, he became hungry. While the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance and God showed a vision to Peter of all kinds of four-footed animals, including unclean and impure animals that Jews were not allowed to eat. He told Peter to “Get up. Kill and eat.” Peter argued with God because he wasn’t allowed to eat unclean or impure food. God said, “Don’t call anything impure if I made it clean.” This happened three times and then God removed the vision. Peter came out of his trance and wondered what the vision meant.
At this time, the men Cornelius sent to find Peter, showed up. God told Peter to go with them. Peter asked, “Why have you come?” They explained how Cornelius, a God-fearing man, had an angel explain how he was to find Peter and have him come to his house and share whatever God put on his heart. The next day, Peter, along with some other believers, went with the men to the home of Cornelius.
“IN THE MEANTIME….” God often will put something on someone’s heart in order to accomplish his will, and then “in the meantime” he will also prepare another person who will take part in what God is doing.
For example, I spoke in Indonesia years ago at a Christian School. One of the students told his teacher to tell me to speak on Matthew 10:32-33. She felt God put that passage on her heart. The teacher told her to leave that up to God. But, in the meantime, God put on my heart to preach from Matthew 10:32-33. God used that passage to bring people to Jesus and to repentance.
