We Should Do The Same!
Recap: God told Cornelius to send men to the city of Joppa and bring Peter back to share whatever God puts on Peter’s heart. In the meantime, God sends a vision to Peter of all kinds of unclean and impure animals, which God called clean, so therefore permissible to eat. Peter was uncertain what the vision meant. When the men arrived to get Peter, God told Peter to go with them to see Cornelius. When they arrived, Cornelius was expecting him and had called all his family and close friends together because he wanted all to hear what Peter had to say from God.
I pray that I am so much in love with Jesus that I want to make sure my family and friends all know Jesus.
So Peter shared what God put on his heart and this is what he said:
1. It was unlawful for a Jew to visit and associate with non-Jews. But God made it clear to Peter that no one is unclean. God was opening the door so that all people, Jews and non-Jews, could hear the Gospel of Jesus and be saved from their sins.
– Sadly, we live in a world with a bunch of unwritten laws that say you should not hang out with certain people, especially the unpopular people. Your peers make it clear that if you hang out with the ones that are ostracized, that you too take the risk of being ostracized as well.
2. God doesn’t show favoritism and neither should we.
3. Got accepts everyone who fears him and obeys him.
4. Jesus is the Messiah who the Old Testament prophets spoke about.
5. As Peter shared the good news of Jesus, the Holy Spirit came upon those who were with Cornelius and they began to speak in tongues and praising God, and they were baptized.
We too are called to preach Jesus and we can’t guarantee everyone we share Jesus with will actually receive and follow Jesus. Our job isn’t to save people. Our job is to share Jesus while it’s God’s job to save them. Let us be obedient and share Jesus no matter what the outcome is.
