Psalms Chapter 84
Excuse Me! But Does That Not Excite You?
The psalmist says the following words:
“How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty. My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.”
In the Old Testament, God’s dwelling place was the Lord’s temple and the psalmist says he loved to be in God’s presence. He even yearned and fainted for it and cried out for the living God. He had praises for the Lord. But then things changed. Christ came to this earth and dwelt among us. And when he ascended into heaven he had given his people a promise, that he would send his Holy Spirit who would dwell within his people and amongst his people.
Excuse me! But does that not excite you? If we could just but capture the reality of this statement that Jesus, through his Holy Spirit, lives and dwells within us, then how differently our lives would change. It would boost our confidence in Christ. It would build our self-esteem knowing we have been adopted into the family of God. Knowing this, why do we listen to the voice of the devil over the voice of the Almighty and living God? It should excite us knowing that he dwells amongst his people, the church! Why then are we not gathering together to learn and study God’s word, to be equipped for service, to praise our living God?
If this does not excite you, then something else or someone else has captured your heart. This is a dangerous place to be. What can be greater than the creator and the love of our God?
