Psalms Chapter 82
You Have To Invest Into Others.
The psalmist says that God dwells in the greatest position of authority. In fact his judgment is final.
Then God asks the wicked people a direct question:
1. “How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked?”
People are so willing to do such wickedness because of the desire for popularity or power.
2. Then God tells them very plainly what they SHOULD be doing:
“Defend the weak and fatherless.”
“Uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.”
“Rescue the weak and needy.”
How can we in practical ways defend, uphold, or rescue the weak, fatherless, or oppressed and needy?
The best results come from the one who invests their lives into the hurting. For example, for the fatherless, you can defend them from a society of destruction. It’s the fatherless that commit more crime, do poorly in education, suffer with anxiety and depression, become bullies. If we can invest our lives into one of these young boys or girls without a father then we could help change the course of their lives.
To rescue the weak and needy may mean investing not just time but also energy and money. Jesus is our greatest example for he invested himself in so many lives and made even the greatest sacrifice, his life. What sacrifices are we willing to make to help one who is hurting and in need?
