Psalms Chapter 72
Long Live My Authorities!
The psalmist prays to God for the king so that he would be endowed with the Lord’s Justice and Righteousness. He then compliments the king on several matters. He even ends with this comment: “Long Live The King!”
May we learn how important it is to pray for our leaders and to show them respect. Let me step on some toes! We should be praying for those who have authority over us: our parents, teachers, boss, the police, our principal, our president, and the list goes on.
Where is your heart? Are you one who finds great pleasure in arguing and debating with authority? Are you one of those who likes to bad mouth your authorities to others? In other words, you lack respect for them. If that’s you, be careful.
1. Your testimony for Jesus looks bad when you lack respect for your authority.
2. You’re allowed to have disagreements and voice your opinion, but if afterwards, if you don’t get your own way, then be a man or be a woman and accept the decision and be respectful.
When’s the last time you prayed for your authority? Or encouraged them? Or complimented them? Or said something positive about them to others? Remember the words of Paul on Acts 23:5 when he said, “Brothers and sisters, I did not realize the person I disrespected was the high priest for it is written, ‘Do not speak evil about the rulers of your people.’ ”
CHALLENGE: Pray God shows how you can share his love of respect through you today with one of your authorities.
