Psalms Chapter 63
I Long For The Lord!
David is in the desert of Judah where food and water is scarce. He calls out to God, not for food and water, but rather for God because he knows nothing this Earth has to offer is better than having the Lord. David says:
“God, I earnestly seek you. I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you. Your love is better than life, my lips will praise you. I even remember you at night when I’m laying in my bed.”
David is willing to forfeit the luxuries of life, to forfeit even the most important “earthly necessities” for the Lord.
Lord, help my desire for you to be greater than anything this world has to offer. May I seek you, long for you, thirst for you, praise you and even remember you throughout the day and night. There is nothing or no one I long for more than you. You are the giver of life. Anything or anyone I desire more than you will only be that which destroys me, my faith, and my reliance upon you. Such earthly pleasures are only satisfying temporarily. But Lord, give me eternal life through Jesus, a satisfaction that lasts for eternity. Thank you!
