Psalms Chapter 57
You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me!
David shares how he took refuge in the Lord during the time King Saul was trying to kill him. Even during the most treacherous situations, where his life is at risk, he prays, “Be exalted, O God!” But he doesn’t stop there he goes on to say, “My heart is steadfast oh God my heart is steadfast. I will sing and make music.” Yes, these are his words during troubled days. But listen to what else he said.
“I will praise you, Lord among the Nations. I will sing of you among the peoples. For Great Is Your Love, reaching to the heavens; you’re faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.”
You’ve got to be kidding me! What type of person, amongst the most disastrous times of their life, is able to exalt God, be steadfast in their faith, sing and make music, declare God’s continuous faithfulness, and declare his glory? Who? I guess a person who is able to look past their circumstances and see a God who can be trusted with all things and in all things. Someone who can acknowledge this even in the depths of despair.
God does loves us and cares for us so we can praise him, not necessarily for the bad situation, but for the fact that he is in control and he will work all things out.
Think how differently we’d live if we responded like David where we praise and exalt God in the hardships of life versus whining and complaining.
God, forgive me when I whine and complain about my circumstances, as if you are far off and don’t care. Help me to be more trusting and show it in how I address you. Let my heart exalt and praise you and be steadfast in my faithfulness while declaring to others Your Glory.
