Psalms Chapter 53
Am I Busy Doing My Father’s Business?
The psalmist starts by saying, “A fool says in their hearts, ‘There is no God!’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.”
Sadly, once we conclude there is no God, we convince ourselves there are no moral standards. The ten commandments mean nothing. Therefore, we feel we can do whatever we want with absolutely no accountability. “If it feels good, do it.” “If it makes you happy, then do it.” Such thought process has put our society into a major moral decay.
The psalmist is broken and remembers God’s promise of the coming Savior, Jesus. He declares God will one day restore his people to himself and when He comes people will rejoice.
Good news, Jesus did the work of restoration when he went to the cross. At age 12, in Luke 2:49, Jesus said to his parents, “Did you not know I must be busy doing my Father’s business?”
Just as Jesus came to Earth to “seek and to save that which was lost,” we too must be busy doing God’s business so as to help reach the lost. Whose business are you busy at? Yours? Or the Lord’s? How does what you do help point people to Jesus? Let’s get busy!
