Psalms Chapter 39
Your Mouth and Your Hope.
The psalmist says he has to watch his mouth because it’s too easy for him to speak what’s on his mind and sin. It’s easy for him to spew out words he shouldn’t.
He cries out to God because God is angry with him. The psalmist has put his hope in money and possessions. He asks for forgiveness and realizes that those who don’t put their hope in God become disciplined by God.
God loves us too much to let live off of false hopes.
He cries out to God to remove his anger so that he can enjoy life again, but this time enjoy it with the proper perspective: it’s all about God and not anyone or anything else.
Does your mouth seem to get you in trouble by saying things you shouldn’t and later regret?
And what do you put your hope in? Is it the Lord? Is it someone else? Is it your possessions?
You can easily answer these questions by evaluating what or who consumes most of your time or thoughts.
Is it the Lord? Ask God to forgive you so you can enjoy life, but this time with the proper perspective: it’s all about the Lord! He created us and loves us.
