Does This Resonate With You?
King David is calling out to the Lord for help while in a battle against his enemies. At one point even says, “Lord I just want to hear you say I am your salvation. I’m coming to save you!”
When his prayer was not answered, he literally went before God broken in humility and with fasting. He was in great mourning. He couldn’t understand why God seemed so far away.
David even tries to make a deal with God, “Rescue Me and I’ll thank you from the mountain tops so all can hear me. In fact I will do this all day long.”
Have you ever felt like King David? You’re in a situation that you have been crying out to God for for so long: the bullying, direction for the future, mental breakdowns, depression, anxieties, relationships, addictions, horrible boss or coworkers, finances, etc. We’ve called out to God for a long time. As David wanted to hear God say “I am your salvation,” we too have longed to hear God’s voice that it is going to be okay or he reveals himself in a miraculous way. That way we can quit waiting, we don’t have to operate by patient faith, or any faith at all.
Perhaps, we too have even tried to “Make a Deal” with God: “Help me God and I’ll go to church more. I’ll pray more. I’ll help people more. I’ll tell everyone how awesome you are and I’ll do it all day long!”
This resonates with me. I remember three issues in my life that I was broken before God over and over again:
1. At college I felt attacked and wanted out so bad.
2. A relationship I had with a young lady that I knew had to be cut off.
3. I prayed to God for direction for my life and I felt no answer. I had no peace.
Yet in all these things God was there. In fact, I grew spiritually so much through each situation. I cried, pleaded, played “Let’s Make a Deal.” Was broken, and God seemed so far away. But he wasn’t. And now I wouldn’t change anything. I wouldn’t do anything different. Even despite the fact that God seemed so far away, or unfair, or untrustworthy. But I persevered by the grace of God and it’s helped make me who I am today. Thank you Jesus!
God IS with you!!
