Psalms Chapter 33
To Whom Or To What Do I Pledge My Allegiance?
I love this chapter. It makes things very clear. The Lord is God! He created everything! All he had to do was speak creation into existence. God was, God is, and God will Always be. No one was before him. No one exists without the Lord’s doing. So why do we not then always give God all praise and glory? If the Creator is better than the created, why do we praise created things over the creator? Think about it. Are there people or things you give praise or allegiance to over God? As I look at my past, I remember giving allegiance to a man who was my discipleship leader. I admired and respected this man so much that I liked people knowing I was on his discipleship team. I found myself exalting him above God. It wasn’t anything I said. But, for example, if we ate lunch together in the cafeteria, I liked the idea that maybe someone was jealous that I was a close friend with this “Godly” man and they weren’t. I’d like to say that’s not true, but someone called me out on it one day because it was that obvious to this individual. The person was right. I exalted the person who was created by God more than the one who created him. Sadly, this is just one example. How about you? To whom or to what do you give your allegiance to?
CHALLENGE: Do as the psalmist said, Prsise God and God alone. Give God all your allegiance and not just partial. Fear God and put your hope in him alone!
