Psalms Chapter 141
Keep Your Eyes Fixed On Jesus.
The psalmist cries out to the Lord for he is surrounded by evil and evildoers. He asks the Lord to help keep him from speaking evil and from doing evil. He wants to be set apart from evildoers so much that he invites the righteous to hold him accountable even if it means being harsh to him. The psalmist says in verse 8 that his eyes are fixed on the Sovereign Lord.
Perhaps we can relate with the psalmist in that we are surrounded by evil at work or at school. We may even feel all alone like we’re the only ones choosing to be faithful to the Lord. Then after a while we begin to slowly compromise our faith so we begin to look more like unbelievers.
May we welcome the rebuke of another Christian brother or sister. We need someone to help us keep our eyes “fixed” on the Lord. The word “fixed” has the meaning of “constant” or “continually.” In other words, we have to keep our eyes CONTINUALLY FIXED on the Lord. Just like Peter, when he was able to walk on water, but the moment he took his eyes off Jesus, he began to sink. We’re no different! We can walk faithfully with the Lord even if surrounded by unbelievers. But the moment we take our eyes off of Jesus, we set ourselves up to sink with our faith. May we all stay Grounded in God’s Word, and stay Committed to a Church Fellowship. Let’s keep ourselves Surrounded by other Christians who can help hold us accountable to our faith. There are many Christians who have fallen hard in the path of the wicked because they didn’t keep their eyes fixed continually on the Lord!
