Psalms Chapter 106
Don’t Sacrifice Anybody To A False god.
The psalmist confesses his sins to the Lord and is reminded how his ancestors before him also sinned and didn’t remember God’s many miracles. Initially, they praised God for the miracles but soon forgot them. They soon rebelled against God and did not call upon the Lord for his plans for their lives. Their flesh controled their decisions versus God’s Holy Spirit. They hung out with those who opposed God and followed false gods. They even sacrificed their own children to the false gods.
It seems that everyday I’m asking the Lord for forgiveness of sins. I’m thankful for his grace but I never want to get comfortable with sin where it runs my life versus God’s Holy Spirit running my life. That’s why it’s so important to stay connected with the Lord through his Word, be connected to a body of believers, the church, and surround oneself with Christian friends who can encourage us and help hold us accountable.
The last thing I want to do is end up sacrificing someone to a false god: my family, friends, or those God entrusted to me. I don’t want my life to be led by my flesh in such a way that I end up influencing others to do the same. To me that’s just like sacrificing a loved one to a false god. Lord, help me be faithful and may my life help influence others to be closer to you versus turn them away.
