Proverbs Chapter 21
A NAGGING QUARRELSOME WIFE!
Verse 9 says, “Better to live in the corner of a roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.”
Verse 19 says,”Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife.”
I’ve never, in all my life, heard a sermon done on these passages because no man is stupid enough to do it. Lol. But for whatever reason I feel compelled to share some words.
I recently heard a husband say how he loved to go in his workshop in the garage when his wife was nagging him. I suppose these verses would get a BIG AMEN out of him.
But even more recent, I heard a wife say that sometimes her stubborn husband drives her up the wall! She says she’s screaming inside and wants to get out of the house. So is the quarrelsome and nagging issue just a woman problem or a man and woman problem?
If I remember the data presented, women are more apt to share their emotions than men which may give the perception that they are more quarrelsome and nagging.
The question I think men should be asking is why do wives quarrel or nag? My wife asked (nagged) me for a week to check the oil in her car. After week, I did it and told her I did it. She jokingly, and with sarcasm, said, “Wow, I only had to ask you 25 times. That’s an improvement. Good job!”
If a man loves his wife like Ephesians 5 instructs us to, could we not then prevent a lot of quarrels and nagging? YES!
Just so I’m not picking just on the men, wives, you were also instructed in Ephesians 5 on how you are to love your husband. When a quarrel comes, what is the motive behind it? Is it for selfish reasons? Are you being stubborn without cause? I would challenge wives, and this also is applicable to the husbands, to be more self aware of your motives.
Husband and wives, read Ephesians 5:21-33. Let God speak to you on how you are to love your husband and how you are to love your wife and then put it into practice and see if the home doesn’t become less quarrelsome and less nagging.
Communication is a great tool to use in a relationship!
