Proverbs Chapter 16
God Knows My Motives.
Verse 2 says, “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.”
WHAT we do is not as important as to WHY we do it. I remember in college our chapel time on Monday was mandatory. The school assigned us into certain groups twice a year. In our group was an attractive Christian young lady. One guy in a group made sure he sat by her and was saying all the right “Jesus” answers. It was obvious that he liked this young lady. Sadly, I could see through his hypocrisy because he lived on my dorm floor and was immature and was a troublemaker. Someone might have thought he was a fine Christian young man, but you had to wonder what his motives were. God knew and knows.
Before I get to self-righteous, I wonder how many times I display my Christianity in hopes of being recognized by certain individuals, and find favor in their sight. Sounds hypocritical.
If our motives are truly to glorify God, then we will be less apt to make known what we do because the one to whom it really counts is the Lord and he already knows WHAT we’re doing and WHY we do it.
