Numbers Chapter 6
Being “Separate” Means Giving Hope For Others.
God addressed with Israel what it means to make a Nazirite Vow. Whoever made this vow was making a solemn promise to God to separate themselves from anything unholy for a period of time, or for life, so one could devote themselves completely to the work of the Lord. Such a person was to:
1) not drink any wine or strong drink.
2) not even eat grapes that were used to make wine.
3) not to shave or cut any hair off their heads.
4) not to go near a dead person.
5) they were to be holy before God.
Today, God calls all followers of Christ to not be bound together with unbelievers.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 says we’re not to be bound with unbelievers so that we end up living like they do. God calls us to be holy. Got called us to be a light in the dark world. Our behaviors and actions should help point people to the hope of eternal life. Whenever we compromise our faith and live like the world, then we hide the hope that is within us from those who need it. So may we also separate ourselves from evil so that when we’re around non-believers our actions can point them to the hope that we ourselves have.
