Do Your Actions Promote Jealousy?
Israel had a law against adultery. If a person was caught in adultery they were to be put to death. But if a spirit of jealousy comes over a man and he suspects his wife has been unfaithful to him, then he is to take her before the priest and go through a certain ritual. If the woman claims to be innocent then she is to drink bitter water the priest gives her. The priest will pray before God and if she’s innocent then she will not be affected by the bitter water and she will be able to have children. But if she’s guilty, then she will be cursed from the bitter water resulting in her unable to have children and it will affect her stomach physically.
This passage is reminder to me, don’t do anything that would make your spouse jealous of you. Be very careful how you act towards those of the opposite sex. Don’t let your actions cause your spouse to question your thoughts and motives around those of the opposite sex.
Be a person of integrity first before God and then before your spouse. In fact, our actions around our spouse should cause them to feel extra loved so be careful of what you say and do. Don’t just do nothing and claim Innocence but rather do something so they feel very special and very loved.
