Numbers Chapter 35
We Will All Be Held Accountable For Our Words And Actions
God commanded that of all the land the Israelites possess in Canaan and beyond, that six of those cities were to be cities of refuge where a manslayer could go unharmed until a trial had occurred.
The place of refuge was never meant to be a place a murderer could go and never be held accountable. Rather it was a place they could go and be protected from those seeking revenge until the trial could be held determining their guilt or innocence. If found guilty they were to be put to death as a murderer. If innocent, they would live in the city of refuge for an undetermined amount of time until the revenge seekers subsided with their hatredness.
God is concerned for all of us: the innocent and the guilty. However, he is a God of justice. We will all be held accountable for our behaviors. Matthew 12:33-36 talks about how the true intent of our hearts will be evident in one’s words and actions, and one day we will all have to give account to God for the intent of our hearts and words. Some will be set free and others will be condemned.
Lord, help me to have a heart that hungers and thirsts for you and may my heart be seen through my words and actions as a testimony of my faith and as a testimony that you are real.
