What In The World Are We Thinking?
As the Israelites were traveling through Moab, the Moabites invited them to worship their false gods. Many Israelites sacrificed and bowed to their gods.
The Lord was angry and instructed the 12 leaders to put to death any of those practicing evil.
What happened here reminds me of our culture today. People in our churches have no problems practicing evil. Just as the Israelite, Zimri, thought it was no big deal to have sex before marriage, and with an unbeliever, plus before all Israel, some Christians today see no problem having sex before marriage and with non-believers, and even with people of the same gender, along with practicing drunkenness, and even accepting other false religions. We live in a society that whatever you “feel” is acceptable, it’s just automatically acceptable even if in God’s eyes it isn’t. “Sin” is not even a term used anymore. Holiness is subjective. We no longer define Holiness by God’s Word. Having morals is something of the past. If you think a behavior is okay, then it’s okay. Just as Israel needed to return to the Lord, His Word, His Truth, and His Holiness, so we today, need to get back to the Lord, His Word, His Truth, and His Holiness. Otherwise we will suffer consequences just as Zimri did.
