Nehemiah Chapter 6
What Defines Your Moral Standards?
Nehemiah’s enemies continued to try and stop the building of the wall and did so through threats, fabricated lies, and even bribing Nehemiah’s friends to get him to sin. But Nehemiah kept close to the Lord and prayed to him often for help and strength. And God was with him. And when the wall was completed, the surrounding Nations lost their self-confidence because they realized this work had been done with the help of God Almighty.
I couldn’t help but think of our politicians on Capital Hill who fabricate lies so as to gain power and even go to any extent to lie and deceive people. They have no conscience or no moral boundaries and do whatever they want in order to reach their goal of power, money, recognition.
Perhaps we aren’t so different. What are our moral boundaries? By what standards do we define these boundaries? Is it the Word of God? Or our culture? Are We quick to abandon God’s word if it means getting what we want? Power? Money? Praise? Recognition? Be careful lest you fall and sin. Stay connected to the Lord as did Nehemiah.
