Leviticus Chapter 4
I Didn’t Do It On Purpose.
God gives instructions on how to offer sin offerings for sins that were committed unintentionally but later to be found out that it was a sin. Such sin offerings were important in order to be forgiven and restored into a right relationship with God.
One time, A friend of mine from church (I’ll say his name was “John”) noticed I didn’t show up for a church event that I said I was going to. So he called me and jokingly make fun of the fact that I was a “no-show”. We both laughed about it.
A few months later, our church had a sunrise service and served breakfast afterwards. John had invited a non-believer to attend, and this friend showed up. He was looking for John but didn’t see him. So I called John and left a message as to how he invited someone, who came, but yet, he himself was a no-show”.
I guess because it involved a non-believer, he interpreted my phone call as belittling him for not showing up.
When I found out he was greatly offended I went to him in person and we made peace with each other and restored our relationship.
For me, the best approach for dealing with an unintentional sin, once it is found out, is to go before God and ask forgiveness and be restored. If it involves another person then go to that person and make peace with them and ask for forgiveness. Don’t let your pride interfere with making peace with God or your friend. Be the bigger person and take the necessary steps to make things right: forgiveness and restoration.
