Leviticus Chapter 17
Have You Given Up Everything?
In the Old Testament God resided in the Tabernacle and that’s why all sacrifices were to be made there. However, many Israelites were doing two evil practices:
1. They were making sacrifices at their campsites, or to false gods.
2. Many were also eating the blood of their sacrifices which defamed its purpose.
God commanded that they do all sacrifices at the Tabernacle where he resides so the blood can be sprinkled on God’s altar for forgiveness of sins.
Also, God forbid the eating of the blood because the blood represents forgiveness of sins and a new life before God.
It’s not much different today: God is calling us to accept Jesus’ shedding of his blood for the Forgiveness of our sins and for a new life in Christ. Sadly, we are like some of the Israelites who get caught up with some of the pleasures of this world or we get caught up putting our trust in other people or things and lose focus of the Lord Jesus. Some people defame the blood of Jesus by acting as if it was no big deal. Or act as if it wasn’t even necessary. If we truly understood the shedding of Jesus’s blood for the Forgiveness of sins and for giving us new life, we’d give up everything so we could follow him completely.
