What Did You Just Do?
Aaron’s two sons, who are ordained as priests to carry out God’s holy offerings, are to follow each step just as God commanded. To disobey any of these steps would make their offering to God unholy.
However, during the offering, they offered a ZUWR offering. ZUWR is the Hebrew word meaning adulterated or contaminated which means it was an unholy offering to the Lord because it was done to the son’s liking versus Gods command.
This is our world today, we want it done our way and to our liking. We want that which will make us “feel” good versus being obedient to God. Our disobedience becomes unholy and such actions have consequences.
For the two sons of Aaron, their disobedience resulted into immediate death from God. God was establishing to all of Israel that obedience and Holiness are essential. God can’t have anything unholy in his presence. May we learn to quit focusing on the pleasures of this world. Deep in our hearts we know what God is asking of us, so let’s be obedient and obey him. There will always be consequences. If we say we love God, then let’s demonstrate it through our obedience.
