Yes, But My Family Said It Was Okay.
Abimelech expressed his desire to be king over Israel and his relatives supported his decision because they were related to him. He was not a man of God and killed all the other 70 brothers except the youngest one who escaped. Abimelech was a wicked man so not the best choice for a king, but was chosen because they were related to him.
Yet we do the same thing. For example, some people hold the conviction that living together before marriage is wrong. But then when their own child ends up moving in with their boyfriend or girlfriend, then all of a sudden it isn’t wrong anymore because it’s their relative who’s doing it.
Right and wrong is not determined based upon the conviction of a family member. It’s based upon the Word of God. We have to be willing to stand for the Truth regardless of what our family thinks or even what our peers think.
Lord help us walk in faithfulness to your Word and not be influenced by any family member who opposes your Truth, including our parents and our peers. Truth is Truth no matter what anyone says, so help me live by it for your glory. Amen!
