What’s Your Idol?
Gideon and his 300 men continued to pursue two other kings of the enemy. They were tired and hungry but continued on until they had complete victory over the enemies.
The 300 men were grateful for Gideon’s leadership and asked that he rule over Israel and he responded that they should let God rule over Israel.
But then Gideon asked the men to each give him a golden earring that they retrieved from their enemies. With that gold he made an idol which ended up being worshiped by Gideon and their city.
WHAT’S UP WITH THAT? It sounds like our culture. People like to worship that which they can see rather than worship the one and only true God, Jesus Christ, whom they can’t see. We are surrounded by lots of things or people that capture our attention. We have to be careful we don’t let the pleasures of this world, or relationships, become more important to us than our relationship with Christ. Be honest with yourself: is there something or someone that gets our attention and love more than our love for the Lord? If so, surrender to the Lord and let him help you either get rid of it or help you change your heart and attitude towards it. Be honest!
